How We Test eSignature Software
Every score on eSignCompare comes from the same place: hands-on testing against a published methodology. We do not rank platforms from spec sheets or vendor briefings β we create accounts, send real documents for signature, verify compliance claims against official documentation, and contact support. Then we score what we actually experienced.
This page documents that process end to end, so you can judge our judgments. If a recommendation cannot be traced back to a step described here, it does not belong on the site.
The testing process
- 1
Account setup & onboarding
We sign up like any customer β no press accounts, no vendor-arranged demos. The first-run experience, template setup, and time to send a first document all feed the ease-of-use score.
- 2
Real signing workflows
We send, sign, and countersign real documents on desktop and mobile: multiple recipients, signing order, reminders, templates, bulk send, and in-person signing where supported.
- 3
Security & compliance verification
We verify certification and legal claims β SOC 2, ISO 27001, eIDAS, HIPAA, 21 CFR Part 11, FedRAMP β against official vendor documentation and audit pages, never marketing copy alone.
- 4
Pricing verification
We document published prices, per-user vs flat-rate models, envelope caps, and overage rules, and re-check them at every review update. Pricing changes frequently β every claim carries a disclaimer to verify with the vendor.
- 5
Support & documentation
We contact support with real questions, measure responsiveness, and assess the quality of public documentation and API references.
The scoring framework
Each platform is scored 0β100 in five weighted categories. The overall score on a review is the weighted average β the same number our rankings, badges, and structured data all read from, so the UI and the data never disagree.

Ease of use

How reviews stay current
We revisit every review at least quarterly. When a platform ships a major change β pricing, features, or certifications β we re-test and update the affected pages within two weeks. Every article displays its last-updated date.
Editorial independence
We never accept payment for placement, scores, or coverage. Affiliate links may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. They are disclosed on every page where they appear and have no influence on scores or rankings. Editorial and commercial decisions are kept separate.
Who writes the reviews
Reviews and guides on eSignCompare are written and maintained by Youness Ouaziki, Senior Editor, who runs the testing protocol described on this page and is responsible for every published score. Corrections and re-test requests are welcome via the contact page.
